Case Study: Wiltech Engineering
Manufacturing balustrades, gutters and downpipes for a six-storey block of flats that had been damaged by a structural fire.
Located Barking, London, Samuel Garside House is a six-storey block that made headlines back in 2019 when a structural fire destroyed 20 flats and damaged a further 10.
After the blaze, significant remedial work had to take place in order to replace the damaged structure of the building.
Manufacturing Balustrades, Gutters & Downpipes
Steel and metalwork suppliers, Wiltech Engineering, reached out to HJA Fabrications to manufacture and supply Balustrades, Gutters and Downpipes across the entire site.
To replace the previous wooden balustrades – which were a leading cause for the rapid progression of the fire – the client opted for a beige metal balustrade, which gave off the appearance of natural wood.
The beige colour balustrades also complimented the gravel that surrounded the perimeter of the building, and the neatly trimmed hedges provided that perfect contrast, giving the apartment block a much-needed, contemporary uplift.
Downpipes were kept silver, which highlighted the vertical angles of the metalwork, giving a subtle nod to the area’s industrial heritage.
